Dyson: noise canceling headphones AND air purifier

Earlier this year, Dyson showed off headphones capable of delivering high-quality sound, noise-canceling properties – and including a built-in air purifier. The company has just confirmed that the Dyson Zone, its first portable product, will be available first in the United States in March, and retails from $949. For now, the date of marketing of this product in France is not known.

The headphones will also be Dyson’s first audio product. But according to the brand, the headphones are also a response to the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that nine out of ten people worldwide breathe in a myriad of air pollutants.

The Dyson Zone also aims to tackle noise pollution. 100 million people are overexposed to long-term noise, Dyson adds. The headphones use Dyson’s air purification technology to channel purified air to the nose and mouth via compressors located in the ear cups.

With the maximum air filtering setting, the headphones wear out after about 1.5 hours of use

The headphones can provide up to four hours of listening time, when the purification function is set to low, and 50 hours of listening time, when it is deactivated. With the maximum air filtering setting, the headphones wear out after about 1.5 hours of use.

Users can monitor the helmet’s battery and filter life and see real-time exposure to air and noise pollution on the MyDyson app. The Dyson Zone can be worn with or without the filter piece, as it attaches magnetically to the front of the ear cups. According to Dyson, headphones filters should be replaced every 12 months, and the MyDyson app notifies you of the filter status.

With eight noise-canceling microphones, intelligent signal processing for detailed sound, and a 40mm 16-ohm speaker, the audio specs of the Dyson Zone are comparable to Apple’s AirPods Max, although the Dyson Zone includes two additional microphones to remove noise from the air filtration system.

At €1,000, it is clear that you are paying for the filtration system

For a price of 1,000 euros, it is clear that you are paying above all for the filtration system, since a new AirPods Max headset costs 550 euros, and a new WH-1000XM5 costs 350 euros.

If you’re looking for a quality pair of headphones that can filter the air you breathe as you take the train to work, the Dyson Zone might be for you. Although it might be better if there were less pollutants in the air so that expensive gadgets aren’t so necessary.
