  • From now until Sunday 107, Aldi is selling an e-bike reduced by 33 percent.
  • Sachsenrad’s e-mountain bike is available for less than 1,000 euros. It won the German Design Award.
  • The range is generous at 150 kilometers.

The Sachsenrad R6 Neo is an e-mountain bike (e-MTB) that is literally worth seeing in the online shop of the discounter. Because the R6 Neo sports an exterior that has won the German Design Award. During the campaign period from Monday, June 20th at 7:00 a.m. to Sunday, July 10th, Aldi is selling the new e-bike at a price of 999 euros.

The recommended retail price on the manufacturer’s website is 1,699 euros; Aldi marks the offer with a strike-through price of 1,499 euros. You don’t care about the RRP. What is important is what is behind the offer and what awaits you. Our assessment.

Not a real mountain bike

The e-bike genres are fluid, the term “mountain bike” is broad. The Aldi e-bike is definitely not built for wild jumps in the bike park or a quick ride over ankle-high roots. The manufacturer therefore also calls it an “Urban Mountain Bike”. But the offer does not count for the popular type of SUV bikes, as they were recently examined by Stiftung Warentest or as we tested it for you in the form of the Riese&Müller Charger4.

In our opinion, the vague term urban mountain bike describes the e-bike quite well. The no-name suspension fork should easily swallow curbs – and that’s more important in everyday life. You have to do without rear wheel suspension, the Sachsenrad R6 Neo is not a “Fully” but a so-called hardtail.

TÜV tested and approved

Aldi advertises the E-MTB with TÜV certification, which includes a fireproof battery and an unbreakable frame. These two e-bike features should be self-evident, but they are not always the case with offers below the 1,000 euro mark. Hence: a plus.

The e-bike also has the StVZO-compliant equipment including lighting on the plus side. The motor installed in the rear wheel is not optimal in terms of weight distribution. With a continuous output of 250 watts and a supported top speed of 25 km/h, it is within the legal framework. So you can stay relaxed during controls.

In the integrated video, the manufacturer emphasizes the good acceleration values, which cannot be judged from a distance. As a result, the e-bike accelerates to 20 km/h within three seconds. This is only to be understood as a rough guideline, as there is no information on the rider’s weight and the power contributed by the pedaling movement.
