E-car for the people: VW names price and market launch

The saver’s dream comes true: The people’s e-car ID.Life from VW should cost between 20,000 and 25,000 euros. By 2025, Volkswagen wants to publish the electric car. The platform is being partnered with Seat.

VW: Inexpensive electric car ID.Life is coming by 2025

Ralf Brandstätter, head of the Volkswagen brand, has confirmed that he intends to bring a genuine Volksstromer onto the market by 2025. While he is still holding back on some details, the price range is already fixed. For the compact electric car in Germany between 20,000 and 25,000 euros attack. Electromobility is to be made “affordable for even more people” (source: LinkedIn).

The Volksstromer is said to be based on the existing ID.Life concept, which Volkswagen presented for the first time at the IAA 2021 as a “close-to-production study”. However, the “ID.2” is traded as the name of the model, in line with VW’s previous nomenclature.

For production, VW relies on one Cooperation with Seat. The Spanish brand of Volkswagen AG is already taking care of smaller electric cars with VW’s MEB platform, and the group has also announced massive investments in Spain. A current sketch already shows that VW’s Volksstromer will differ somewhat from the ID.Life concept on the outside:

VW’s ID.Life should become “like a second living room”.

VW speaks of one “distinctive design” and an air chamber textile made from recycled PET bottles to reduce the weight of the electric car. A 57 kWh battery can be expected, which should have a range of up to 400 km according to the WLTP standard.

Is buying an electric car worth it?

The manufacturer speaks a lot about the choice of materials Sustainability and renewable raw materials. The interior is intended to look “like a second living room” with FSC-certified wood and recycled materials. For the tires, VW wants to use a mixture of natural rubber and rice husks. But before the smallest electric car in the VW portfolio is ready, the electric Bulli ID.Buzz is next.
