E-car future – bidirectional inductive charging: you can do both at the same time

Inductive charging promises to put an end to cable fiddling. The new technology also masters bidirectional charging, as a study has shown.

Inductive and bidirectional charging are considered to be interesting e-car functions for the near future. Both technologies can also be combined, as researchers at the Institute for Automation and Communication (ifak) have now proven.

According to the scientists, the wireless feeding of energy back into the power grid is technically possible with the support of WLAN or 5G technology. The bidirectional charging and feeding back with up to 11 kilowatts was examined, the system achieved an efficiency of 90 percent and is therefore almost as effective as the power line by cable.

The project partners were Audi, the supplier Zollner Elektronik and the energy marketer e2m.
