This refers to the publicly accessible charging points, of which there are 50,901 in Germany according to a message from the Federal Network Agency from December last year. An estimated 80 percent of the charging processes take place at private charging stations, many of them at the so-called wall boxes.
According to information from the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the end of last year, more than half of all municipalities in Germany have no generally accessible charging stations.
When asked where people in the country should charge their e-cars, the minister replied: “We want to expand vigorously, it has to be faster.” To this end, the Minister of Transport wants to get the car industry on board. “The home market has to be a pioneer market. That is why I am very confident that we can achieve this together. Everyone has a responsibility.”
Conventional cars are no longer an alternative
Cars with internal combustion engines are no longer an alternative for Wissing. He points out that a decision has been made at European level to get out of the internal combustion engine and into e-mobility. You also have to send a clear industrial policy signal. “That is why I am now in favor of us implementing and acting quickly.” He even considers the export of fossil fuel-powered cars to countries with a still underdeveloped charging infrastructure worth considering.
In the interview, the minister did not respond directly to the question of tax relief for the increasingly expensive fossil fuels. Instead, he referred to the abolition of the EEG surcharge, which could make charging electric cars cheaper. “The switch is the better solution,” he said.
