E-cars on the rise: VW, Kia and Co. have something up their sleeve


Kia, Polestar and Xpeng give us a lot to look forward to with their new electric models. Although electric cars are no longer a new invention, the manufacturers always want to shine with new specialties. These plans don’t always work out, but they do show that progress is being made.

Where are electric cars taking us? Obvious answer: wherever we drivers want to go. But the question can also be understood more broadly. Where is e-mobility headed? In the past few days, the manufacturers have once again given us a few reasons to be optimistic: above all with new models, but also with ambitious projects.

From China to Sweden: These new electric cars show what is possible

This is what the Chinese e-car manufacturer wants Xpeng with his latest electric car Setting benchmarks in charging performance. The G9 should be able to charge enough electricity for a journey of 200 km in just five minutes. However, only under ideal conditions and at the company’s own ultra-fast charging station, which is said to bring it to a charging capacity of 480 kW – an announcement that has been made. According to its own statements, the traditional Swiss company ABB has so far been at the forefront with a fast charging station.

The EV6 from Kia, which is considered to be the best electric car to date, is also impressive with its charging performance – apart from the Mercedes EQS, which hardly anyone can afford anyway. A new version is now available for the Kia. Of the EV6 GT brings the strengths of the EV6 with it, both in charging capacity and in design. It was a bit sportier, but that shouldn’t detract from the mass appeal. Only the range has suffered a little from the extra power, Kia leaves it with the identical battery as in the EV6.

Sweden is a few levels sportier: Polestar wants one build a serious Porsche competitor called the Polestar 6. We already knew a corresponding concept car, but now it is clear: It will go into series production and take a lot from the concept with it. It will only be a while before the electric super sports car from Sweden is ready. The start is planned for 2026.

At VW, things are also going well with the electric models that are already in the portfolio: the ID Buzz is apparently almost sold out, even before delivery has even begun. Almost the entire annual production of the electric Bullis has buyers, it should not start until October. The Wolfsburg have no reason to complain. Your plan shows that, too from 2024 to completely dispense with combustion engines in a first country. Anyone who wants to have a petrol, diesel or hybrid from VW in Norway from January 1st has really bad cards.

Mobility – something is happening: E-cars, electric bicycles, e-scooters, the 9-euro ticket for bus and train – all of this moves us in two ways. And what has happened in terms of mobility?

Meanwhile, BMW is still struggling with the battery drive. The Bavarians want to stay on the ball with all types of drive. But from 2025 you want it now rely more on fuel cells. But you have one of the hydrogen veterans on board, will cooperate with Toyota.
