“E-Euro should be as anonymous as possible”

April 6, 2022:

On the last day of the Crypto Asset Conference in Frankfurt am Main, the focus today will be on digital central bank currencies, among other things. In a panel discussion, for example, Joachim Schwerin from the EU Commission commented on the current status of the digital euro. There are currently broad discussions among those responsible about the technical design.

“We are in a critical phase. Many in Europe have recognized the advantages of a digital euro over the last year. Nevertheless, we have to consider issues such as programmability, security and anonymity when developing it.”

Schwerin also sees the concerns of some about the endangerment of anonymous payment.

“I think the digital euro should be as anonymous as possible and the Commission agrees. We put privacy at the forefront of governance. To do this, we work together with politicians, industry and users.”
