E-Go Wave X: strong ambitions for the German electric mini-city car

Everything has not been easy for e-Go which, like many European companies, has suffered the full force of the covid-19 crisis, notably with supply difficulties which have considerably hampered production. The impact was so great that the German company was almost bankrupt in 2020, before recovering thanks to new shareholders. Car production was able to resume in 2021 and the e-Wave X caused a lot of talk during its presentation at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.

Ultra ambitious and international strategy

It was first necessary to organize production, because the brand has enormous international ambitions since this city car should also be marketed on the North American continent. Today, the first examples are leaving the historic factory based in Aachen, potentially capable of producing 30,000 electric vehicles per year.

E-Go intends to develop a strategy to achieve its objective of several hundred thousand units sold each year. The brand will thus create highly automated mini-factories, because the car was designed for this. The e-Wave X is based on an aluminum space frame covered with a polymer body. The firm announces that three additional units are planned. The next one will be located in North Macedonia and should be operational from 2024. It will then be joined by another site, still in Europe, with the third factory to be located in the United States.

A real city girl

The e-Go e-Wave It is therefore an ultra compact vehicle since for comparison, the Dacia Spring measures 3.734 m for a 290 l trunk with the seats in place.

It has a 30.4 kWh battery which gives it 163 km of autonomy (WLTP cycle) and 250 km in the city. Its engine delivers a power of 44 kW, or even 86 kW peak, for a maximum speed electronically limited to 135 km/h. Its very pleasant design, which could evoke certain vehicles without a license, hides a cozy interior with the possibility of opting for Alcantara and heated seats, or even wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The e-Wave X has a huge 23-inch screen and many connected functions. The range starts at €24,990 for the Native version and goes up to €30,000 for the Metropolitan version. Be careful, don’t rush to the brand’s online configurator, because this city car is not yet marketed outside its native lands.
