E3 2006: Sony’s improbable conference is to be relived in 4K

There was a time, not so long ago, when theE3 unleashed passions. It was indeed the only time of the year when players were inundated with information on future video games and consoles to come, each conference was awaited, followed and then commented on with interest… whether good or bad.

And in 2006, when sony had the wind in its sails with the aging PS2 and its recent PSP, we had attended one of the most lunar conferences of theE3. A moment of anthology of almost two hours when Kaz Hirai, then president of Sony Computer Entertainmentand the guest developers chained the awkward moments, trying to present new features on the PSP (“Riiiiiidge Racer!”) and above all titles of the future PlayStation 3, showing the gyroscopic features of the controller DualShock not without difficulty. Siphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune or Genji: Days of the Blade were presented, as well as mind-blowing advertisements of cringe for PS3…up to the formalization of the price of the console: $600 in the 60 GB versiona much higher amount than its competitor the Xbox 360 which was already a hit on the market, leaving a great awkward silence in the room.

And if we speak to you again in 2023 of this 2006 conference, it is because chain YouTube NoClip just shared it in 2160p at 60 fps. A conservation work that made Danny O’Dwyer and his channel famous, he got his hands on original HDCAM recordings, while the Web had been content with captures of the streaming stream for years. However, two short minutes are missing, dedicated to a game Tiger Woodsbut the essential is safe, and it is to be admired above, to make a good in the past and have a good laugh.
