After a 2021 edition at half mast, hit hard by the pandemic and which struggled to adapt to the digital format, E3 was uncertain of returning in 2022. Many echoes of industry professionals were already declaring their concerns a few weeks ago about the lack of plans communicated by the ESA, both for a physical edition and for an entirely digital edition. But it’s now official, at least according to Will Powers from Razer: E3 2022 will not take place.

Major upheaval within the industry, the E3 2022 is canceled, both in physical and online. Which means that the ESA is giving up organizing the show this year, regardless of its form, according to Will Powers:

IGN confirmed the information in stride. According to the site, ESA prefers to focus on a big comeback in 2023 by being better prepared.
But that obviously doesn’t mean that the summer won’t be full of announcements, since Microsoft already seems to be preparing its usual conference, while we can certainly expect publishers to organize their own shows, with no doubt a Nintendo Direct and a State of Play/PlayStation Showcase during this period (not forgetting the AG French Direct in May, wink wink).
