E3 2022 totally canceled, Summer Game Fest takes its place

E3 2022 finally throws in the towel and cancels its edition, in physical as well as online. An abandonment favorable to the Summer Game Fest 2022 which returns in June.

This is finally news that will not surprise many people: E3 2022 is canceled. While the ESA had promised an online edition, there will be none of that. A disavowal which could definitively seal the future of the American living room. But since the misfortune of some is the happiness of others, the Summer Game Fest 2022 imposes itself by replacing.

A smell of end

At a time when life is returning to (almost) normal and video game events are returning, such as the Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom, E3 2022 cancels EVERYTHING. No physical edition, no online appointment. Nothing, nada. After rumors in the corridor, the organizer of the event took responsibility by sending this message:

We will devote all our energy and resources to deliver a renewed E3 experience, in physical and digital, next summer. Whether enjoyed from the living room or on your favorite devices, E3 2023 will bring together community, media and industry in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to bringing E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.

In truth, the show was in a bad shape even before the pandemic. Indeed, for several years now, the place was shunned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. One of the major and essential players in the influence of the show. And let’s not even talk about the giant Nintendo, which fled long before, while Electronic Arts and Microsoft also deserted the Convention Center for a few years.

We have thus been able to read that over the last few years, tensions between the ESA and the participants, including PlayStation, have emerged. In 2019, following the leak of personal data from professionals, the reputation of the salon took another hit. And above all, with the advent of livestream meetings, manufacturers and publishers have learned to manage on their own and save a lot of money in the process. In short, an accumulation of things that put end to end, could make think of a total end of E3. Will this be the case? We will see it well.

E3 2022 is dead, long live Summer Game Fest 2022

Like Solid Snake, Agent 47, or a weasel, presenter Geoff Keighley surfed on this news to announce that his Summer game Fest 2022 will be held in June. Either the same month as the usual E3… as if by chance!

This new cancellation of E3, while other shows will take place, does it sign the death of the event in your opinion? Do you believe in a rebirth? Tell us everything in comments.
