E3 2022 will not be held face-to-face, Geoff Keighley replies with the Summer Game Fest

Because the announcement of a new year for some comes with a wave of hopes, some gamers were hoping that 2022 would be synonymous with a full return of E3. It was without counting on the latest variant of Covid-19, which once again dictates its law.

E3 2022 will not be held face-to-face: for the second year in a row, the one that remains the most famous exhibition in the video game industry will be absent from the halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center, as revealed by our colleagues at Venture Beat:

Due to the health risks associated with COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not take place face-to-face in 2022. We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3. , and we look forward to announcing more details soon.

THE 3 ? E3 not?

This announcement, which will undoubtedly sadden some, does not however say what the Entertainment Software Association actually intends to implement to compensate for this sad news. Asked about the holding of a new edition 100% online, the organizers said they were “enthusiastic about the possibilities of a remote E3” without taking a position.

Rather than playing for time and betting on a hypothetical drop in contamination from Covid-19 and its many DLC variants, ESA was determined to anticipate a late turnaround. Recall that if the E3 2020 had been purely and simply canceled, the 2021 edition had offered us the traditional remote industry conferences, and too bad for the grip.

But because it always takes time to rejoice in the misfortune of others, it only took a handful of minutes for ex-journalist Geoff Keighley to drive another nail into the coffin of the ‘E3. Faced with this announcement, the Game Awards presenter contented himself with a visual to recall the return of the equally summery Summer Game Fest:

If the announcement had previously been made last December, players know that whatever happens they will be able to discover new announcements in the form of WORLD PREMIERE this summer.
