EA presents its new 2D platform game, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU

Firstly an actor who notably played Bayek in
Assassin’s Creed Origins, Abubakar Salim wanted to create a game to pay tribute to his father. Since then, Surgent Studios has set about creating Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. A 2D platform game that revolves around blood ties. Published by EA Originals, the game is expected for April 23, 2024 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.

The lands of Kenzera, once full of life, are now home to lost ancestral spirits. A young shaman warrior who lost his father receives a Bantu tale written by the latter. Wishing to bring him back to life, his long journey towards the God of death begins. An adventure that will take him to desolate lands, inhabited by powerful and frightening beings. To progress in his quest, he takes advantage of an artifact left by his father, binding him one last time to move forward.

It’s clear that Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is not just a narrative platform game. It is Abubakar Salim’s tribute to his father, as well as a way of mourning. Or at least looking for the best way to do it. The love that binds a father to his son is the central theme of this personal title. And with such passion, we can’t help but look forward to seeing the end result so we can cry properly.

“Since it happened [la mort de son père], I try as best I can to accept this event: sometimes, I ignore it, sometimes, I talk about it, or I draw inspiration from it for work. You could almost say that things have come full circle thanks to the desire to create a game that pays homage to both my love for it and our shared passion for video games. »
