EA to lay off 5% of its workforce

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced a restructuring plan involving the layoff of approximately 5% of its workforce worldwide, according to information from the media specializing in video games Video Games Chronicle.

As of March 2023, EA employed 13,400 people. Which means that the layoffs should affect 670 people.

“Given how and where we work, we will continue to optimize our real estate assets to best support our business,” Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, explained to his employees. Before adding: “We will also abandon several games, and move away from future licenses which, in our opinion, should not meet with the expected success in this rapidly evolving sector. »

“This refocus will unleash our creativity, accelerate innovation and focus on our biggest opportunities – including intellectual property, sports and large online communities – to provide gamers with the entertainment they want. expect today and in the future,” believes the manager.

“Not all teams will be affected,” he clarified, assuring that the layoffs represent “the most difficult part of these changes” and that the company “has studied in depth all possible options to limit the impact on teams”.

EA plans to complete its restructuring plan before the end of the calendar year.
