What an exciting time for PlayStation!“. This is how Sony’s blog post announcing the launch of PlayStation Stars begins. First available in Asia – from September 29 –, this loyalty program will be deployed in North and South America, as well as in Europe and Australia during the month of October.

PlayStation Stars, what is it?

By downloading the PlayStation App on iOS or Android or by visiting PlayStation.com, it will be possible to access the PlayStation Stars experience. This will then offer you different activities consisting of logging in, playing a specific game, winning a particular trophy, being among the first to platinum a game, etc.

Sony gives as an example one of the first campaigns to be made available to players. Dubbed “Press Play / 1994,” it asks players to launch a found game using song-based clues.

An interface will then arrive directly on PlayStation consoles.

What do we win with PlayStation Stars?

By completing these objectives, players will earn loyalty points and digital collectibles. Loyalty points can be redeemed for funds for the PSN wallet, select PlayStation Store products, or exclusive digital collectibles.

It is therefore possible to obtain credit to buy games while playing. Good news for those who spend a lot of time in front of the console.

This loyalty program is reminiscent of the Microsoft Rewards program which allows you to earn points with Microsoft services. In particular, you can accumulate it by completing quests on Xbox consisting of… launching a Game Pass game, earning achievements, etc.

Digital collectibles?

Digital collectibles are stored in a virtual storefront and represent “items loved by PlayStation fans“. Upon joining the program, all members will receive the Stargazer Telescope item while the first collectibles will include Punto the Gondolierfrom Ape Escape 2the PocketStation, Toro and Kuro, “and many others“.

The idea, as with trophies, is to compare your collection with your friends. If a rarity system is in place, trading and selling is not provided.

Sony also wants to clarify that while this looks a lot like images of monkeys that we’ve seen swarming the internet in recent years, it’s not NFT. They are not unique and are not blockchain-based.

The more you pay, the more you earn

While PlayStation Plus membership is not required to join this program, subscribers will receive additional points for all direct PlayStation Store purchases.

Four status levels will be unlocked depending on the rare trophies won or the number of games purchased on the PlayStation Store (but not boxed…). The higher your level, the better your benefits will be.

When will PlayStation Stars be available

PlayStation Stars has been available since September 29 in Asia (including Japan) and will arrive in America on October 5. Finally, Europe and Australia will be served on October 13.
