Nazan Eckes, Eko Fresh, Cem Özdemir and other celebrities mourn the victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
According to official figures, the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have so far claimed the lives of more than 2,300 people. Several celebrities mourn the victims on social media.
Nazan Eckes is in the heart of the affected families
The presenter of Turkish origin Nazan Eckes (46) spoke up on Instagram. She posted an all-black image that reads “Pray” in white, and in the accompanying comment she continues: “…for Turkey and Syria.” “The news about the earthquake in the border region shocked us all this morning and makes me incredibly sad,” explains Eckes. Fortunately, the families of her friends from the region are not affected. “But my heart is with all those who are not so lucky.”
She also calls for help: “The survivors of this catastrophe urgently need our help now.” For example on the website of the “Tagesschau” donation accounts of aid organizations that support the affected people in the countries are listed.
“I’m just shocked and, like everyone else, I’m trying to process this terrible news,” said Eko Fresh (39) the “Bild” newspaper. “You feel a bit helpless, but it hits you hard when something like this happens, no matter where. But when it happens in your parents’ home country, your heart bleeds,” explained the rapper and actor.
Cem Özdemir’s thoughts “with the victims and their relatives”
He wishes the victims of the earthquake “God’s mercy and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” wrote the Turkish singer Tarkan (50) in an Instagram Story. “I am so sorry.”
Also the soccer star Mesut Özil (34) reported in a story. He wrote that God have mercy on all citizens who lost their lives in the earthquakes. His condolences go to the relatives and the nation, the former German national player wishes all those injured a speedy recovery.
Among other things also on Instagram Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (57) published a short video. The politician explained in Turkish and German: “We mourn the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
Pope Francis (86) sent telegrams of condolences, according to Vatican News, in which he expressed his deep sorrow, to Damascus and Ankara. One of the letters said: “The Pope entrusts those affected by this disaster to the care of the Almighty and prays in particular for the helpers involved in the ongoing rescue efforts.”
