Thousands of toys and stuffed animals were thrown on the lawn, after 4 minutes and 17 seconds of play, in reference to the local time (4:17 a.m.) when an earthquake struck Turkey on February 6.

The match was stopped to allow fans to throw the various objects. “Our fans threw scarves, berets and soft toys on the floor of Vodafone Park to give to children in the earthquake area to cheer them up“, Besiktas said in a statement.

The match between Besiktas and Antalyaspor ended with the score of 0-0. The Turkish championship resumed this weekend. Four matches took place. Besiktas is 3rd in the standings, 8 points behind Fenerbahce and 14 behind Galatasaray. The earthquakes that struck Turkey and its neighboring border, Syria, claimed more than 50,000 lives.
