Easter Festival – Hilary Hahn receives the Karajan Prize

“I’m really grateful for that”
“The time during the pandemic showed me the importance of music. Not only could I not perform, I couldn’t go to concerts myself. It is such a privilege to be able to experience music together again in the same place. I am really grateful for that ”. With these words, the American accepted the 50,000 euro prize from Nikolaus Bachler, the commercial director of the Easter Festival, and Arabel von Karajan in the Großer Festspielhaus. This gratitude and joy had already been heard and seen in Mozart’s Violin Concerto in A major. Especially in the cadences that came from her, she showed herself to be keen to experiment at the highest technical level in adding one or two smackers to Mozart’s themes. The audience rewarded her for this with great applause, which she clearly enjoyed. Hahn had given some streaming concerts during the lockdown, but this was not a real replacement, as she also said in her thanks.
