Others decide to eat only soup in the evening because this dish is known to help us lose weight.

Weight loss: is it advisable to eat only soup in the evening?

According to dietician and nutritionist Laura Tajan, eating exclusively soup for dinner is a “very bad idea”. She explains that each person must ingest a minimum of calories per day to support the body. “By eating only one soup, we do not consume enough calories. We are beyond the calorie deficit, we will be in low calorie. The body, which has a good memory, will not understand why we take away so many calories “, she develops.

The nutritionist indicates that this low-calorie dinner does not allow to obtain the expected results. On the contrary, it promotes long-term weight gain: either the body will make reserves during the next meals, or it will experience the yoyo effect, which consists in recovering in a few days the pounds hardly lost.

When we do not bring enough calories to the body, it is in distress and draws on reserves in an abnormal way. When we resume a normal diet, we risk being confronted with this yoyo effect, because the body will store fat in anticipation of the next low-calorie meals.

“During our sleep, we do not eat for several hours. In short, we fast until the next morning. The body therefore needs a certain number of calories to be able to recover from the past day and allow us to wake up in good shape “, specifies the dietician.

What should you eat in the evening if you want to lose weight?

Laura Tajan explains that it is possible to consume soup in the evening, but that it is advisable not to eat only this dish at dinner. Maintaining a balanced diet is essential for weight loss or maintaining a stable weight, according to the nutritionist.

“When we want to lose weight in a sustainable way, we must create a calorie deficit, without falling into hypocalorie. In this specific case, we do not bring all the calories to the body but we give it enough”, she declares.

For the meal to be balanced, the dietitian recommends consuming vegetables that will provide dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals, she explains. It also recommends a supply of animal proteins through meat, fish or eggs.

It is also necessary to bring energy to the body thanks to starches. If you want to lose weight, it is recommended to consume semi-complete or whole starchy foods or pulses. They will allow energy to be diffused more slowly thanks to their high fiber content. The dietician Laura Tajan also recommends consuming milk (yoghurt, cottage cheese or cheese) during the meal as well as fresh fruit or in compote.

“If you want to enjoy a soup for dinner, it is better to eat a soup. The latter is more nutritious than a soup, which is mainly composed of water. In addition, the fibers will be less destroyed”, indicates the dietician. It specifies that it is possible to add lentils, peas or potatoes in the soup. “In this case, we are careful not to find starches in the rest of the meal since there will be some in the soup. However, nothing prevents us from betting on a good portion of vegetables to accompany our dish”, she advises.
