A 6-year-old boy from Wallsend proudly bought a huge monster truck on eBay. But this cost 21,000 euros – which his father now has to pay.
Some childhood dreams come true on the Internet. And not just for adults, who can find almost every toy from the past that was thought to be forgotten on sales platforms. For the offspring of this time, eBay and Co. are turning into the window of a huge toy shop – in which everything they long for can be found.
This is probably what happened to the 6-year-old Ario from Wallsend, England. He secretly snuck to his dad's laptop, which he had accidentally left open. There he could hardly believe his eyes: He found a long-awaited monster truck on eBay! And bought it without further ado. Except that the truck was not a cute little toy – it was a full-fledged vehicle at a price of 21,000 euros.
Child buys monster truck on eBay – and dad gets the bill
It was not until some time later that Arios' father Mohammed is said to have noticed his son's purchase. Because suddenly the big bill from PayPal arrived. The truck has already been paid for – and is ready to be picked up, as the seller on eBay told the family. He did not want to cancel the auction, even if it was an accident.
Now Ario's father is in a dispute with PayPal. "I don't have that much money in my account and no one with common sense would buy a car for that much money without seeing it, but it just went through. There should be extra security for such an amount," said Mohammed the news magazine "Chronicle Live". He claims not to have received any notice in advance. PayPal simply paid the amount and now he owes the payment service the money that he doesn't even have.
Little Ario faces no punishment at home: "I know it was my fault that I didn't check the laptop and saved the password," says Mohammed, kindly. His son is still small, but clever for his age. His father still didn't think he could make such a purchase: "He loves monster trucks and his birthday was on March 29th, and on the 28th he said he wanted a truck – but I never thought he would buy a real monster truck for himself wool!"
So far, the complaints with PayPal should have been unsuccessful. As things currently stand, it looks like the Ario will actually get its full-blown monster truck – and its father would have to pay the price for it.
