The author, director and producer Eberhard Hauff (1932-2021) has died, as announced by the Munich Film Festival. He died on October 13 and was 89 years old. Hauff founded the Munich Film Festival in 1983 and was its director until 2003. In addition, he was involved in many committees and associations. Among other things, Hauff initiated the German Institute for Film and Television in the 1950s and was a founding member of the Federal Directing Association in the 1970s. “We think with great gratitude of Eberhard Hauff as an enabler and fighter for the film as a cultural asset”, Diana Iljine (57), the current director of the Munich Film Festival, is quoted as saying.

“We will keep him in grateful and vivid memories,” the message continues. The sympathy goes to his brother, director Reinhard Hauff (82), as well as his family and friends. The Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (35) also paid tribute to Eberhard Hauff in a statement. With the Munich Film Festival he “created a showcase festival for the cultural region of Bavaria”. His commitment to German film and the Bavarian film industry was “a great asset”. “It is with great sadness that we receive the news of his death. We will keep an honorable memory for him,” continued Gerlach.
