EC to propose new multi-billion euro sanctions against Russia

BRUSSELS, April 5 (Reuters) – The European Commission is to propose to the EU-27 a vast package of additional sanctions against Russia, including embargoes on imports of coal, rubber and caviar, for an estimated amount of around nine billion euros per year, we learned on Tuesday from a European source.

The EU will also introduce a ban on the export to Russia of semiconductors, advanced machine tools and other equipment intended in particular for the extraction of liquefied natural gas (LNG), exchanges whose annual amount amounts to approximately ten billion euros per year.

Representatives of the Twenty-Seven are due to meet in Brussels on Wednesday to take a series of additional sanctions against Russia, the fifth since the start of the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
