DAVOS, May 23 (Reuters) – Hikes in the European Central Bank’s key interest rates in both July and September are likely to be a given, European Central Bank (ECB) member Francois Villeroy de Galhau said on Monday. only after the institution’s president, Christine Lagarde, indicated that the era of negative rates would end by the end of September.

“If you look at the statement by President (Christine) Lagarde, an agreement is probably reached because there is a growing consensus,” Francois Villeroy de Galhau said during a debate at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Earlier today, Christine Lagarde said the ECB should raise its deposit rate, currently at -0.5%, to zero by the end of September and could raise it even further if inflation stabilizes at 2%. . (Report Balazs Koranyi, French version Laetitia Volga, edited by Jean-Michel Bélot)
