Echo Show: Camera, weather, calendar – display permanently: Is that possible?

AMAZON ALEXA

The Echo Show happily rotates weather reports, calendar events and other content across its home page. But is it also possible to display individual home page content permanently?

The Echo Show is the all-rounder among Amazon devices. From the alarm clock on the bedside table to the shopping list in the kitchen to the Spotify radio or Netflix screen, the smart display can be anything. But can just one piece of content, such as the weather, be displayed permanently if desired?

While the Echo Show has many different functions, personalizing the Amazon display’s user interface is unfortunately not nearly as easy and free as many of you would like.

On most devices in the series, it is neither possible to install apps directly nor to permanently display widgets with weather or calendar feeds. The Echo Show 15 breaks new ground with its permanent widget display and app installation via Fire TV.

Turning off the rotation on the Echo Show is only possible to a limited extent

The following applies to all other Echo Show users with screen sizes 5 to 10: If you want to optimize the display of your home screen, you do this according to the exclusion principle and simply switch off everything that should no longer be displayed on the home screen.

But even turning off almost all apps doesn’t completely stop the rotation on the Echo Show’s home screen. However, there are exceptions – and a few tricks on how you can use the Amazon display better according to your needs.

Echo as a clock: The trick with the screen saver

Actually, your Echo Show shows the time most of the time. Depending on how much of the home page content you have turned off, the only thing you can see is background images with a time and date stamp and an outside temperature display.

If you don't find the standard time display on the Echo Show big enough, you can use third-party apps to help.

If that’s not enough for you and you’d rather use the Echo Show as a wall clock, you can use third-party apps to permanently set up a screen saver with a time display and thus overlay the Amazon advertising column on the home page.

Echo Show constantly shows camera feed

While the time cannot be displayed statically using the Echo Show’s native means, this is certainly possible using the camera feeds from an Echo Show or a connected Ring camera.

The camera display always has to be started manually, but then runs permanently - even as a picture-in-picture display when you leave the view.

If you leave the camera view, a picture-in-picture display automatically starts. You can read how you can display a device’s camera image on the Echo Show in the linked Netzwelt detailed instructions for using the camera on your Echo Show.

This is how you hide all displays on the Echo Show

Instead of a specific display, you don’t want to see anything on the Echo Show except your own chosen wallpapers and personal photos? Then follow these instructions and simply use the Echo Show as a glowing picture frame.

Using the Echo Show as a digital photo book allows you to hide everything from the time to Alexa tips. However, only for a certain period of time: After three hours, the Echo Show returns to its normal home screen.
