Echo VR: Ready at Dawn announces the closure of free-to-play multiplayer

The game free-to-play multiplayer Echo VRoriginally released in 2017 on Oculus Rifthas allowed many players to try out VR without breaking the bank. After more than six years of good and loyal service, now Ready At Dawn announces the upcoming closure of game servers.

Echo VR is a zero gravity game – which obviously recalls the movements of the excellent Lone Echo (from which he borrows part of the title) – whose principle is to send a disc into the opposing goal. If you want to discover it or continue to play it, you will have until July 31 to do so, because servers will close on Monday, August 1, 2023 at 10 a.m. PT.

If the announcement surprised us as much as you, the studio explains that they want to focus on their next project first. We are crossing our fingers that this is a sequel to the license, in which case the closure would not be experienced as too unfair for the players.

Here is the statement from the studio:

At Ready At Dawn, we pride ourselves on being open and communicative with our community. To that end, we have some news to share…after much discussion internally and with our partners at Meta, we have made the difficult decision to shut down Echo VR.

What does this mean for Echo VR? Well… we won’t stop him tomorrow. Echo VR will continue to operate until August 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM PT, when servers and services will be shut down, preventing the game from functioning.

This decision was not taken lightly but for good reasons, it obviously follows our last meeting, devoted to our next project. We can’t say anything about that yet, but we’re all excited and we need everyone on deck.

Ready at Dawn makes most of the game’s old rewards available free-to-play through a Giveback Event. A very meager consolation in the face of the announcement of this closure. The studio also clarifies that there will be no refunds. (purchases in-game, DLCs…) planned. AlthoughEcho VR doesn’t have much time left, and if you are curious, remember that it is offered for free on the platforms Meta Quest.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, you can treat yourself to a Meta Quest 2 to the Fnac, Darty Or Amazon from €449.99.
