(Boursier.com) – The rise in consumer prices in Germany slowed significantly in December over one year according to the first estimate published on Tuesday by Destatis, the Federal Institute of Statistics in Germany. The price index calculated according to European standards HICP thus shows a contraction of 1.2% compared to November and a slowdown to 9.6% over one year after a jump of 11.3% the previous month!

Economists on average forecast respectively a fall of 0.5% from one month to another and a slowdown in the progression on an annual basis to 10.7%.

The consumer price index calculated according to German standards came out down 0.8% over one month, while the increase over one year was “only” 8.6%.
