At the end of last year, the government tightened the rules concerning the ecological bonus. Indeed, in addition to a reduction from 5,000 to 4,000 euros, cars with too low an environmental score no longer entered the picture.
While some are waving the flag of excessive protectionism on the part of the government, local manufacturers are rubbing their hands at seeing competition penalized by the absence of subsidies.
All electric cars are no longer affected by the ecological bonus
As a reminder, the environmental score is calculated by the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) using data provided by the brands themselves. The score takes into account several key factors, including the carbon footprint of production, the materials used, the assembly of the vehicle, the manufacturing of the battery and even the transport of the vehicle from its place of manufacture.
In other words, with a few exceptions such as the Mazda MX-30 which is manufactured in Japan, all cars manufactured outside Europe are excluded from this system.
Only electric cars obtaining a minimum score of 60 points are eligible for the ecological bonus. A list of cars eligible for the bonus is therefore available on the government website, and new models may integrate this selection along the way. Several new electric models have just been added to the Official Journal.
Which new electric cars are affected?
Thus, we find nine models already present at the base, but with new versions: Abarth 500, BMW Series 4 and iX1, Fiat 500 and Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger, Opel Grandland, Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.7. The big news on this list is the new generation of Opel Grandland presented last April which will be available for the first time in electric form.
