The members of the government will meet twice this Wednesday. The traditional Council of Ministers will be followed by a government seminar led by climatologist Valérie Masson-Delmotte. Emmanuel Macron now wants to look into “the major back-to-school projects”: ecology and the energy crisis.

Emmanuel Macron gathered the members of the government this Wednesday at the Élysée for a council of ministers at 10 a.m., then for a government seminar at 1 p.m. After the dark warnings of last week, such as the end of abundance or even carelessness, the President of the Republic now wants to put his ministers to work on ecology and the energy crisis. Crucial themes for this new school year, after a summer marked by fires and repeated climatic phenomena.

The executive wants to take action, and above all to show that he has the ambition through this double meeting at the Élysée Palace. For the occasion, climatologist Valérie Masson-Delmotte, member of the IPCC, the intergovernmental group of experts on climate change, was invited to the Elysée to give training to ministers on ecological and climate issues. A seminar which must “structure the major construction sites for the start of the school year” warned Emmanuel Macron.

A classified defense council

The Head of State has already set another meeting for the members of the government directly concerned with energy issues. Friday, September 2 will take place a defense council devoted to the supply of gas and electricity. An appointment which comes just after the end of Russian gas deliveries to the Engie group, announced on Tuesday and effective from Thursday.

This defense council will also have a particularity: defense secrecy is imposed. Contrary to the councils of ministers and to the governmental seminars, the participants will be under the obligation to reveal nothing of the deliberations. A way to maintain the mystery while giving gravity to the moment.
