After the crazy period of the Covid-19 pandemic, e-commerce players are gradually getting their feet back on the ground. This landing is painful for many employees, sacrificed in the name of a “macroeconomic environment that has become complicated”. This is the reason put forward by Robert Gentz and David Schneider, the two bosses of Zalando, to justify the dismissal of several hundred employees.

In a letter sent to all employees of the online ready-to-wear specialist, management believes that “some parts of the business have grown too much”. Consequently, job cuts are planned in “many divisions of Zalando, including top management levels”.
However, employees of logistics centers, customer service and stores, as well as those of Zalando Studio (entity dedicated to the production of photos for items offered for sale on the platform), are not affected by this cut in the staff. To date, Zalando has 17,000 employees and claims more than 50 million active customers.
