Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni test: our full opinion –

With its new Deebot T30 Omni, Ecovacs seeks to overshadow Roborock and its Qrevo MaxV, by offering a relatively affordable robot vacuum cleaner, but equipped with many innovative features. It offers mop washing at 70°, coupled with an extendable mop to clean along baseboards. It stands out for its compact base, more elegant than that of competitors. Finally, it is equipped with an innovation supposed to prevent hair from tangling in the brush roll, thus simplifying its maintenance.

In this test we review the black Deebot T30 Omni, which is also offered in a Pro variant, available in white or pink. For an additional 100 euros, the latter adds an on-board voice assistant and intelligent dirt recognition.

Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni A mini station, but maximum functionality

The Deebot T30 Omni is characterized by its base with reduced dimensions of 480 x 490 x 409 mm. However, it offers the same functionalities that have become classic, namely automatic emptying into a dust bag, hidden behind a removable panel on the front. The main new feature is the two water tanks, arranged horizontally at the top. The clean water tank is at the front and the dirty water tank at the rear, spanning the full width of the base. These are particularly large and can be complex to fill and empty. As the top cover opens completely, the risk of spillage is significant, particularly when handling the wastewater tank. Ecovacs didn’t stop there and reworked the base base, making it completely removable, like on the Ultenic MC1. This approach greatly simplifies cleaning, as we will see below.

The robot takes a circular shape, unlike the Deebot X2 Omni, Ecovacs flagship. It has a LiDAR dome on top, as well as three quick access buttons. The upper part is covered by a removable plate, which hides the dust bin and the HEPA filter. As for the lower part, there are two rotating mops, one of which has the TruEdge system for cleaning the edges and baseboards. The Deebot T30 Omni uses a brush roller combining a plastic part, as well as hard and soft bristles, to effectively clean hard floors and carpets. However, this approach is risky, because although these brushes generally clean better, hair and pet fur tend to get tangled in them. To overcome this potential problem, Ecovacs has equipped the robot with a sort of comb, in order to minimize possible tangles.

Overall, the robot, docking station, and water tanks use sturdy materials. The build quality is better than the Deebot T20 Omni, or even the Roborock Qrevo MaxV.

Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni A basic application

The Ecovacs application is less sophisticated than those of Dreame and Roborock. Its interface is less intuitive and the options offered are limited.

Like the majority of robot vacuum cleaners, the application first invites you to map your home. The resulting map is accurate, although Ecovacs seems to struggle with parts without right angles. You then have the possibility of modifying it, for example by adding furniture, or by merging or separating rooms. Likewise, you can define scenarios with specific cleaning parameters for each room.

The Deebot T30 Omni has a smart cleaning mode, allowing it to automatically adjust the suction power and water flow depending on the dirt level. Cleaning settings can also be adjusted manually, allowing you to customize suction power, water flow and cleaning speed. The slower it is, the more the robot focuses on cleaning stains and dirt. Several modes are offered, namely suction or washing, both simultaneously, or one then the other.

The application allows you to change the frequency of mop washing and automatic emptying, as well as the sensitivity of obstacle detection. Functionality TrueEdge, aimed at automatically or systematically extending the right skate to run alongside the plinths, is also customizable. The same goes for carpet detection, since the robot can, depending on your settings, lift its mops, ignore the carpet or clean it. Finally, you can choose between standard or deep washing of the mops, and use hot water or not.

In addition to the app, the robot also works with Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also be launched with the buttons on the top, or even by tapping its front bumper with your foot. Finally, the Pro versions are equipped with Ecovacs’ Yiko voice assistant, which can be useful if you want to control it directly by voice, without using a connected speaker.

Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni Effective cleaning, but navigation could be improved

The Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni has an impressive suction power of 11,000 Pa, more than the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, probably one of the best robot vacuum cleaners on the market. This allows it to vacuum dirt on hard floors, but also deep down on carpets. Its brush roll is designed to lift dirt and dust and direct it towards the suction port to maximize performance.

The Deebot T30 Omni offers excellent suction results, particularly on hard floors, leaving no visible dirt after passing, provided you do not use too high a power on hard floors. When using high settings, the robot often tends to blow away dirt, requiring a second pass for optimal results. It is therefore preferable to use it on moderate settings on hard floors and to favor high settings for rugs and carpets.

The strong suction power is particularly effective on carpets, sucking up thick hair deep down. However, if you have thick rugs and carpets, a model with two brush rolls, like the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, may be more suitable.

For wet cleaning, the Deebot T30 Omni uses two flip-up rotating mops. They are washed with hot water at 70°C before, during and after each cleaning session. The dock also fills the robot’s built-in water tank, ensuring the mops are continually moistened during cleaning.

The results are impressive, especially on dry spots. Indeed, the Deebot T30 Omni has almost no difficulty in removing coffee or sauce stains. For dry stains, it is best to use a deep mode and do a second pass, to remove tough stains.

The TruEdge system is quite interesting, as the robot cleans with the mop constantly extended and retracts it when necessary, covering a complete surface.

The Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni, however, suffers from its imprecise navigation and its too approximate obstacle detection. He can move around without much difficulty, but often navigates in an unusual manner, missing some places while passing others twice. He tends to have difficulty with closed doors, attempting to force his way through.

Worse yet, its obstacle detection technology is very inconsistent, completely ignoring some objects while avoiding others. For example, it can detect shoes, large toys and boxes, but cannot see cables, rags and even the legs of certain furniture. In addition, it frequently gets caught in electrical wires, despite supposedly precise obstacle detection.

In terms of autonomy, Ecovacs promises up to 200 minutes of autonomy. At medium cleaning settings, the robot can clean around 100 square meters on a single charge, with the ability to return to the dock to refill when the battery is low.

Ecovacs Deebot T30 Omni Relatively simple maintenance

With the Deebot T30 Omni, Ecovacs wanted to facilitate maintenance of the robot to require little human intervention. Thus, the base of the station is particularly easy to clean, since it is completely removable. Although it gets dirty easily, simply clean it under water with a brush — not included — to get it clean again. In addition, a cleaning mode is also offered in the application, allowing you to fill the base with water, which then simply needs to be brushed, before it is collected automatically.

Ecovacs increasingly highlights functionality ZeroTangle, to limit hair tangling thanks to a comb which directs the hairs so that they are sucked up. However, results are mixed, particularly if you have pets or lose a lot of hair. During my tests, my dog’s hair still tended to get tangled in the brush, and I had to frequently clean it manually. This is still better than a robot using a nylon wire brush, but less well than a silicone brush. You must therefore be vigilant on this point, depending on the configuration of your accommodation.

As for the water tanks, they are particularly large, allowing intervention-free cleaning for approximately 170 square meters. As mentioned above, their format can complicate transport and emptying, but it is more a question of getting the right hand than a real problem. The dust bag is also large enough and does not need to be replaced frequently.
