Ed Sheeran has released a surprise track. "Afterglow" is not a harbinger of an album, but "just a song I love".

The British musician Ed Sheeran (29, "Perfect") has surprisingly released a new song. And that's maybe even more surprising, the track "Afterglow" has nothing to do with a new album. "Hey guys, 'Afterglow' is a song that I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you guys. It's not the first single on the next album, it's just a song that I love and hopefully you do too. Have fun!" the successful artist writes on Instagram.

"Afterglow" should actually be something like a Christmas present to his fans, because Sheeran also sends Christmas greetings: "Have a safe and happy Christmas and a happy new year. I'll go back to Papa Land, ciao x." In addition to the song, he revealed a performance video for it, which was recorded in one take, as his label announced.

Ed Sheeran, the most streamed British artist of 2020 in the United Kingdom, is currently in the middle of his well-deserved break. Together with his wife Cherry Seaborn, he looks after his daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, who was born at the end of August, "in Papa-Land".
