Eddie Murphy: Comedian wins first Emmy Award of his career

Eddie Murphy can finally put an Emmy in the trophy cabinet. An honor he has been waiting for almost four decades.

Hard to believe, but comedian and Hollywood star Eddie Murphy (59, "Only 48 Hours") won his first trophy at this year's Emmy Awards. The good news about this premiere was also on Saturday evening (local time) via the official Twitter account the Television Academy announced.

He received the award for a celebrated guest appearance on the famous sketch show "Saturday Night Live", which he put on last year – a return to his comedy roots after a proud 35 years. The last time Murphy was nominated for an Emmy was 21 years ago. Murphy came out on top in the "Best Guest Appearance in a Comedy Series" category against well-known competition. Due to the corona pandemic, some announcements of this year's Emmy awards are spread over several days. The actual show will take place the next night on Monday (September 21) and will take place completely virtually to protect employees and winners.
