Wolfgang Van Halen (29) is a musical monument to his father: The son of the late guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen (1955-2020) has released their debut single "Distance" with his band Mammoth WHV. The song and the accompanying video are an emotional tribute to the musician who died on October 6th.
The music video for "Distance" is a collection of home videos by the Van Halen family and offers an intimate glimpse into their lives. It shows Wolfgang as a baby, as an adolescent boy and, of course, as an adult man, standing on stage with his father. The video ends with a touching voice message Eddie left for his son.
The proceeds of the single will benefit the Mr. Holland`s Opus Foundation. An organization that has supported Eddie Van Halen all his life and donates the instruments to music projects in the USA that cannot afford them.
That was the real cause of death
Eddie Van Halen died on October 6th at the age of 65. Up until now, it was assumed that he had succumbed to cancer of the larynx. In an interview with radio legend Howard Stern (66), Wolfgang spoke about the real cause of death. "He was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in late 2017," said Van Halen. The doctors would have given his father only six weeks to live. But he clearly exceeded these expectations. The 29-year-old emphasized also thanks to an alternative treatment in Germany.
Two years later, there was another stroke of fate: After a motorcycle accident, the musician was discovered in 2019 with a brain tumor. It just didn't stop and from then on Eddie Van Halen's health quickly went downhill.
