Eddie Van Halen: Two of his legendary guitars go under the hammer

Two guitars personally played and modified by Eddie Van Halen will go under the hammer in December.

Less than two months after the death of Eddie Van Halen (1955-2020), two instruments by the guitarist of the century are auctioned. The auction house "Julien's Auctions" announced this now. It is expected that each of the two guitars will fetch between $ 40,000 and $ 80,000. The auction will take place on December 4th and 5th.

According to the auction house, Van Halen himself gave the first black and white instrument from the Charvel brand the iconic stiff look with adhesive tape. As proof, photos are enclosed with the guitar showing the work. It also has a burn mark on the headstock. Van Halen had stuck a lighted cigarette under the strings during a performance there in 2004. The front is also adorned with an autograph by the guitar virtuoso.

The second red and black electric guitar from Kramer was heavily modified by Van Halen and his guitar technician Matt Bruck. It was also designed in the stiffened look, it is also signed. It will be auctioned with one of Van Halen's picks and two of his back-stage passes. Van Halen had given it to the owner of the bar in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he met his ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli (60), at the end of August 1980. Van Halen was married to her between 1981 and 2007. They have their son Wolfgang (29).

Eddie Van Halen died on October 6, 2020 as a result of years of cancer of the larynx.
