PARIS, April 22 (Reuters) – The Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) informed Luxembourg on Thursday that it had shut down reactor 3 of the EDF EDF.PA nuclear power plant in Cattenom in Moselle in March. , shows a letter consulted by Reuters, after the government of the Grand Duchy informed it last January of its concern about the security of the site located near its border.

“EDF shut down this reactor in March in order to recheck the welds concerned, which confirmed the presence of indications. However, given the performance of the inspection means used, it is not possible at this stage to comment on the presence of cracks and their origin”, declared the ASN.

The French authority specifies that the inspections of reactors 1 and 2 did not reveal any stress corrosion cracking and that EDF has also recently initiated inspections on reactor 4.
