” EDF, official supplier to the pharaohs since 2000 BC”. In the Thursday, April 20 edition of ParisianEDF surfed on a bad buzz caused by Gims for a humorous communication operation.
In a video, the singer developed a theory that the Egyptians had electricity since ancient times thanks to the pyramids. “No Mr. Gims, still not. But we are certain that if electricity had existed at the time of the pharaohs, they would no doubt have chosen us”, continues EDF, on this full page, with two large pyramids in the background.
“As a rational and scientific brand, for us, the idea was to humorously deconstruct misconceptions,” said EDF management, joined by AFP. This “wink” also allows EDF “to address a young audience”, the operation having been massively shared on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
A far from new theory
In this video published on the Oui Hustle account, which has accumulated several hundred thousand views, Gims explains that at the top of the pyramids, “there is gold”. “Gold is the best conductor for electricity. They were bloody antennae! People had electricity. People can’t understand that. The Egyptians, the science they had, is beyond comprehension, and historians know it! he continued.
Three weeks later, on April 13, the singer released his latest track “Hernan Cortes,” named after the Spanish conquistador, on his YouTube channel. By way of illustration, an image of pyramids, surmounted by a golden capital and near a pylon, cables and electrical cabinets.
This assertion – unfounded – according to which Egypt would have had electricity long before its invention in the 19e century, is far from new. In September 2018, she had already resurfaced in a video viewed more than 2.5 million times and entitled “the real mystery of the pyramids has finally been solved” which relayed this absurd theory of “power stations”.
