Under construction for many years, Edmund McMillen finally sees the end of the tunnel with his project on cats. Accompanied by Tyler Glaiel, the roguelite Mewgenics comes to life over the months, presenting its mechanics in small doses. Expected for 2024 on Steam, the tactical RPG will still take many players thousands of hours.
A choice of class, skills, equipment. Mewgenics is a real RPG with many customization possibilities for its cat. But it is above all a genealogical roguelite, like Rogue Legacy, in which an adventure ends at home, with new descendants to take over. It will therefore not be a question of starting all over again with each game, certain actions making it possible to permanently unlock objects and skills.
The progression is approaching more than one Slay the Spire, offering a map where forced stops regularly block the way for the team of cats. We alternate between events, treasures and fights throughout the adventure. These take place on a turn-by-turn basis, and introduce some nice mechanics. Cats can interact with the decor, grow vegetation, burn it or even freeze surfaces. In short, the title offers a lot of things to do and optimize. And for the purists, the poo is always present.
