The former Prime Minister has indeed seen his facial hair change over the complicated months of his mandate, marked by the many strikes and especially the start of the coronavirus pandemic. In June 2020, a few weeks before handing over to Jean Castex, Edouard Philippe confided in the columns of Paris Match that he suffered from a disease called vitiligo. “It is a disease – a vitiligo – without gravity, neither painful nor contagious”, he explained, revealing that his depigmentation was benign. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that progresses in different phases and is often caused by stress. The politician had made it clear, however, that he did not intend to shave.

Vitiligo: other stars suffer from the same disease

Edouard Philippe, once again mayor of Le Havre, is now back in the spotlight. The 50-year-old publishes, with Gilles Boyer, Clear prints and lines (JC Lattès). The opportunity for him to confide in our colleagues from Point. On Wednesday March 31, 2021, the former right-hand man of Emmanuel Macron again alluded to his increasingly white beard. So, while many voices have commented on his physical change, Edouard Philippe reveals that he is also entitled to comments at home. “My daughter, who is 10, tells me that the historical figure I remind her of is… Kung Fu Panda”, did he declare. And to continue: “I can confirm that she probably said that because of my beard.” An affectionate nickname that the former prime minister does not seem to take badly. Besides, there is nothing: many other personalities also suffered from vitiligo among which the actress Holly Marie Combs, the top-model Winnie Harlow or the legendary Michael Jackson.
