(Boursier.com) — EDP Renewables (EDPR), a major producer of renewable energies in the world, is expanding its presence in Greece and inaugurating a second renewable energy production site, the “Erimia” wind farm in the Malesina region . This is a new step in EDPR’s mission to reduce CO2 emissions each year by providing clean energy to thousands of homes, thus contributing to the country’s energy transition.

The investment in the “Erimia” wind farm underlines EDPR’s commitment alongside local communities to improve the quality of life and stimulate economic growth. The “Erimia” wind farm has an installed capacity of 35 MW distributed over six wind turbines. The project will produce around 71 GWh per year, which will reduce CO2 emissions by around 50,000 tonnes and provide clean energy to more than 18,000 homes in the region.
Since arriving in Greece in 2018, EDPR has developed its portfolio to increase clean energy production. With the inauguration of Erimia, EDPR practically doubles its capacity in Greece, with 80 MW and a pipeline of more than 100 MW of projects under construction, which include wind farms, but also solar and autonomous storage systems.

“For EDP, the inauguration of this second renewable project in Greece not only signifies a firm commitment to the country’s decarbonization objectives, but also a valuable contribution to the well-being of local communities. Greece is a country where we invest in a sustainable and safe manner, supported by remarkable progress in energy policies. This project reflects our commitment to creating a sustainable future,” says EDPR Greece Managing Director, Dionysios Andronas.
