Educational assistants will have an automatic CDI… after six years of CDD

Ua small revolution a few weeks before the start of the school year. As our colleagues from France Info have spotted, the Ministry of National Education published this Thursday, August 11 in the Official Journal a decree establishing an automatic “CDIsation” for all educational assistants (AED) present in establishments in the second degree. This measure will apply to anyone with at least six years of seniority, specifies the decree published on Thursday. According to the ministry, this progress is part of the law passed last February on the fight against school bullying.

In 2020, the Ministry of National Education had more than 60,000 educational assistants in the 6,950 colleges and 3,750 high schools present in France. However, until now, these tens of thousands of employees were considered as non-permanent State agents. And for good reason, they signed fixed-term contracts directly with the rectorate of an academy for periods ranging from one to three years. In the field, these AEDs are responsible for supervising and supervising the students. Indeed, this body of the Ministry of Education replaces the historical boarding school masters and other day school supervisors.

“The work and commitment of educational assistants is now secure. Thanks to this decree signed by the government, they will have the possibility, after six years of exercise, to sign a CDI ”, rejoiced the head of National Education, Minister Pap Ndiaye. Concretely, each AED who will be recruited will be able to claim a contract of indefinite duration at the end of the renewal of a fixed-term contract. The AEDs remain, indeed, recruited in this way, confirms the decree. “The educational assistants are recruited by contracts of a maximum duration of three years, renewable within the limit of a total commitment period of six years”, it is written.

After the CDI, the unions demand tenure

Often, these DEA positions are filled by students. As a result, it is sometimes a part-time contract. The text signed by the hand of Elisabeth Borne goes, nevertheless, in the direction of these assistants of education. Indeed, the CDI will be proposed, whether the agent was full-time or not. In addition, the status of the agents does not change. Even with a CDI, their hierarchical superior remains, still according to the Official Journal, the rector of the academy, with whom the contract will be signed. Finally, in the event that the principal of the high school or the principal of a college opposes this “CDIsation”, they will have to justify their choice.

According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, quoted by our colleagues, half of the AEDs present in secondary schools are in their thirties. Thus, “better security” on the professional level is often one of the expectations of these officers. Last March, precisely, they had gone on strike to denounce a precariousness of their position. Beyond a contract of indefinite duration, the unions of AED demanded a tenure in the Public Service. In addition, since the start of the school year in September 2021, educational assistants benefit from bonuses when they are present in an establishment that is a member of the priority education network (REP and REP +).
