Edward Snowden and his wife became parents for the first time. The US whistleblower speaks of the "greatest gift".

The American whistleblower Edward Snowden (37) became a father for the first time. His wife Lindsay Mills (35), with whom he has been married since 2017, made the birth public on social media. On Instagram and Twitter, she posted a photo of the small family holding their newborn son in her arms. The boy's face is covered by a smiley face.

Snowden already commented on the picture, he wrote, "The greatest gift is the love we share." The couple did not make their son's name or birthday public. Instead, it is known that the boy was automatically granted Russian citizenship at birth.

Snowden has been living in asylum in Russia since 2013 after he published data on US intelligence surveillance programs and had to flee his homeland. In the United States, he was charged with espionage and theft of government property. Russia granted him an unlimited right of residence, but Snowden claims that he is aiming for dual citizenship. On November 1st of this year he announced via Twitterthat he and Mills would apply for US-Russian citizenship in order to "not be separated from our son".
