EELV: who will succeed Julien Bayou at the head of the party?

Alexis Delafontaine

Elected deputy in June, Julien Bayou has no choice. He must give up his post of national secretary at the end of the party congress, which will be held in December. The horizon is still distant but the ambitions are already asserting themselves to succeed him, while the summer days of the Greens open Thursday in Grenoble.

The Greens’ summer days open on Thursday, with the horizon of the party congress to be held in December. The renewal of the management team is already in everyone’s mind, while Julien Bayou has confirmed that he will not run again. Will we witness a war of leaders among environmentalists?

“We have built a great coalition”

Julien Bayou, the current national secretary of Europe Ecologie Les Verts, does not regret not being able to represent himself. He justifies his choice: “I was elected deputy in June and I am completing an extremely demanding three-year term. I will be able to concentrate in the Assembly on parliamentary work and hand over to the new team that will take over. “.

But the boss of the Greens completes his mandate with his head held high and defends an honorable record. “We have doubled the number of mayors, including in the big cities. We have doubled the number of regional and departmental elected officials. And, with Nupes, we have built a fine coalition in which there is the largest group of the history of political ecology”, he says with satisfaction.

Marine Tondelier facing Sandrine Rousseau

So, without Julien Bayou, the cards are reshuffled for the presidency of the Greens. And, internally, two lines are already opposed. There is that of Marine Tondelier, regional councilor for the North. His platform to rebuild the party was notably supported by the former presidential candidate, Yannick Jadot. And, opposite her, a well-known figure on TV sets: the radical Sandrine Rousseau, recently elected deputy, who wishes to impose her ecofeminist line.

But behind the scenes, other suitors intend to come and disrupt this duel and rely on its summer days to get noticed.
