The text in favor of a decent income for agricultural producers allows a higher wage increase than that of 2021.
Coming into force a year ago, the EGalim 2 law is beginning to bear fruit. Extension of a first version of EGalim voted in 2018, this text wanted by the government aimed to ensure a decent income for French farmers. If this “decent” threshold varies according to the agricultural sector, income in farmyards will again experience a sharp jump this year, according to INSEE. At the latest – provisional – count from the French statistics institute, remuneration from agricultural work will increase by 16.4% in 2022. And this after a first jump of 11.5% in 2021.
Admittedly, this surge is explained, as last year, by the surge in prices for certain agricultural raw materials (cereals, sunflower, meat, etc.). This has allowed many farms to rebuild their cash flow. But above all, it reflects a better capacity of the French farm to pass on its production costs downstream.
