Eiffage sets foot in telcos with the acquisition of Snef Telecom

5G is highly coveted by industrial groups who see it as a lever for future growth, thanks in particular to its industrial applications. This is the case of Eiffage, which has just set foot in the telecom market with the acquisition, announced this Friday, of 70% of the shares of Snef Telecom, the telco branch of the Snef group. The transaction should be finalized during the second half of 2022, subject to the usual conditions precedent and regulations, Eiffage management said.

This acquisition, carried out under the aegis of Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, should enable the construction giant to “complete its portfolio of offers with players in industry and the tertiary sector” and to enter a market deemed strategic, due to the “development of 5G technologies”. According to a recent note from Bercy, investments by end users to operate 5G networks (public and private) should amount to between 1.5 and 2.2 billion euros between 2020 and 2027. A windfall that logically interests a number of actors, including Eiffage, as evidenced by the operation announced on Friday.

Snef Telecom achieved a turnover of 207 million euros in 2021 and employs 1,000 people. Specialized in the engineering, deployment, maintenance and operation of fixed and mobile networks, the telecoms branch of the Snef group claims on its website partnerships with the main French operators (Bouygues, Free, Orange, SFR), but also with heavyweights in the telecom infrastructure market Nokia, Huawei, Ericsson or Cisco, with administrations and public authorities or with groups such as Auchan or Ikea.
