eight children under 9 are in intensive care

According to the latest information from Public Health France, eight children under the age of 9 are currently hospitalized in intensive care following the Covid-19. Two of them were admitted this Tuesday, September 22, to the Bordeaux University Hospital.

A worrying new record. This Tuesday, September 22, two children were admitted to intensive care at the Bordeaux University Hospital, according to information from the Parisian. "Among our 87 hospitalized patients, there are 4 minors under the age of 15, including two in intensive care", warned Yann Bubien, general manager of the hospital. While many pediatricians and doctors said at the start of the pandemic that children were little or little affected by covid-19, pediatric cases are increasing in France.

Indeed, Bordeaux is not the only city to welcome young people in its intensive care units. A total of eight children under the age of 9 are currently in intensive care due to the infectious disease. Including a child in Île-de-France, one in Normandy, one in Occitanie and two in Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur. In young people between the ages of 10 and 19, severe forms of the disease seem less common. Thus, only two people are in intensive care, in Île-de-France.

"The exceptional situations are increasing"

In children under 9 in intensive care, the figures are increasing. Indeed, at the beginning of September, the cases were limited to one child in Reunion, one in Île-de-France and two in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. "Serious forms are exceptional in children, but here it is, the more the virus spreads, the more the number of cases increases, the more 'exceptional' situations multiply. It's mathematical", explains Robert Cohen, vice-president of the French Pediatric Society. "The Covid-19 affects everyone, without exception".

As a reminder, it is essential to respect barrier gestures to protect your loved ones and protect yourself.
