Eight years later – Viennese woman attacked: accidental hit exposed perpetrators

A mean attack on a Viennese pensioner in her apartment remained unsolved for eight years. Now the woman looked one of the two perpetrators in the eyes in court.

“I would like to apologize. I deeply regret that and I am very sorry,” the accused addressed his victim in the Vienna Regional Court. The 76-year-old calmly acknowledged the remorse and looked directly at the perpetrator when he said it. Remarkable when you consider what the petite lady had to go through. Locked up in the bedroom for 24 hours On February 19, 2014, she was brutally attacked by two masked men in her apartment in a Vienna inner district. When Ms. T. opened the door for her tormentors, the robbers held a gun in front of her, and later also a knife to her back. They pushed the retiree to the ground, choked her with a USB cable, and gagged her. “Then one of the two perpetrators opened the safe and took jewelry worth 750,000 euros. They dragged their victim into the bedroom, locked the door and left him,” the prosecutor said. Ms T. was not freed until 24 hours later. The accused does not know the name of the accomplice Eight years after the horrific act, a random DNA hit led to one of the two perpetrators; he had to answer to the judge on Monday. “My client has confessed. He was addicted to the drug at the time of the crime and suffered from a chronic lack of money,” explained defense lawyer Mirsad Musliu. The accused does not want to be able to remember the last name of his accomplice – he only knows that his car had a Serbian license plate. Eight years in prison, not final After a short trial, Mr. L. was found guilty of aggravated robbery and imprisonment and sentenced to eight years in prison.
