Eintracht messes up the start of the league: Nuremberg ends a dry spell in derby that lasted 1763 days

Eintracht screwed up the start of the league
Nuremberg ends 1763-day derby dry spell

Back in the 2nd Bundesliga, Eintracht Braunschweig has to deal with two heavyweights – HSV and Heidenheim prove their skills, much to the chagrin of the promoted team. Kaiserslautern masters the start better. In the Franconia derby, Nürnberg finished off Fürth who were relegated.

1. FC Heidenheim – Eintracht Braunschweig 3:0 (1:0)

1. FC Heidenheim has at least temporarily taken the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team defeated newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0 (1-0) and after the success at Hansa Rostock (1-0) ensured a perfect start to the season. Heidenheim took the lead through an own goal by Philipp Strompf (10′), Tim Kleindienst (61′) and Kevin Sessa (90′) followed suit. Braunschweig is still waiting for the first point and the first goal after the second game.

The hosts got off to a great start in front of 7088 spectators. A cross from Marnon Busch unhappily steered Strompf into his own net. With the lead behind them, Heidenheim initially withdrew a little, but remained dangerous. Stefan Schimmer (27th), Kleindienst (30th) and Jan-Niklas Beste (35th) missed their chances. Braunschweig always bravely looked for the way forward, but the offensive game of the guests lacked determination, as in the somewhat unfortunate opening defeat against Hamburger SV (0:2). The best chance to equalize before the break was missed by Jan-Hendrik Marx (45th) after preliminary work by Immanuel Pherai. Braunschweig came out of the break with momentum. Pherai narrowly missed the hosts’ goal (50′). Heidenheim did better and raised through Kleindienst and Sessa.

1. FC Nuremberg – SpVgg Greuther Furth 2:0 (1:0)

After 1763 days, 1. FC Nuremberg ended its dry spell in the Frankenderby. Coach Robert Klauß’s team defeated SpVgg Greuther Fürth in a heated 269th encounter, deservedly 2-0 (1-0) and, after five unsuccessful attempts, triumphed again against their archrival for the first time. Newcomers Christoph Daferner (15th) and Manuel Wintzheimer (81st) decided the game with their goals.

For the club it was after the opening defeat at FC. St. Pauli the first points of the season. The Bundesliga relegated from Fürth, on the other hand, is still waiting for the first three after a draw under new coach Marc Schneider and is in the lower half of the table. In total, Nuremberg won 141 Frankenderbies, while SpVgg triumphed 49 times.

The club was extremely bilious from the start, buying the Fürthers the edge in front of 41,204 spectators in the first half. After 99 seconds, Daferner missed from close range before he easily pushed a header from Kwadwo Duah over the line. In the second half, the Schneider team made the game a little more open, but lacked penetrating power in front of the goal.

Holstein Kiel – 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2: 2 (0: 1)

Two games, four points: newly promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern has arrived in the 2nd division. A week after the 2-1 win against Hannover 96, the Palatinate fought a deserved 2-2 (1-0) at Holstein Kiel. Daniel Hanslik (33rd) and Terrence Boyd (62nd) scored for the guests. Thanks to a brace from Fabian Reese within six minutes (51st and 57th), the North Germans had temporarily turned the turbulent game in the second half.

In front of 13,113 spectators, including almost 2000 FCK fans, the storks disappointed especially in the first half in the forward movement. Only after the change of sides was the Red Devils back line challenged in several scenes. In the closing stages, the hosts were closer to victory.
