(Boursier.com) — Ekinops has provided its 1651 10G Ethernet Access Platform to Stratus Networks, a leading provider of capacity and private fiber optic networks, based in Peoria Heights (Illinois, USA).

Stratus is now using the 1651 10G Ethernet Access Platform (EAD), based on Ekinops OneOS6 software, to provide EPL (E-Access Ethernet Private Line) services, compliant with MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) standards, to an operator third parties to provide mobile phone network connectivity. Stratus chose the 1651 EAD solution primarily because of its ability to support 10 Gbps wire-speed Service Activation Testing (SAT). Using IETF RFC-2544 and ITU-T Y.1564 test standards, the 1651 acts as both a SAT generator and reflector, saving the cost of a second test device while speeding up the SAT process. With this capability, Stratus now has the tool required to not only validate its service level agreements using real-time data with its customers, but also to show how far it goes beyond its contractual performance. Stratus becomes one of the first service providers in North America to operate an Ekinops network combining WDM equipment for Layer 1 and Ethernet platforms for Layer 2.

Stratus provides network services to other carriers and entities of all sizes, small businesses, government agencies and players in the education sector. It has its own fiber optic loop supporting 10G/100G/200G speeds throughout the State of Illinois, a solution built from the Ekinops360 dynamic optical transport system. This allows it to reach any customer by extending its network from the nearest Point of Presence (PoP) to the customer’s facilities.
