Unlike many RPG-type games, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, to give just one example, Elden Ring has no bestiary. Indeed, the players cannot glean information on the creatures killed or to be killed, via a notebook listing them all. In the CD Projekt Red game mentioned above, the bestiary was relatively important and interesting as it allowed you to prepare as well as possible before a confrontation.
On the other hand, FromSoftware’s games do not offer this feature. It was not available in Dark Souls, nor in Bloodborne or in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Elden Ring is no exception to this rule, although some recently collected clues suggest that the developers once had the idea of integrating a bestiary into Elden Ring.
On his Twitter account, JesterPatches shared his discovery: while rummaging through the game files, he found nearly 130 different icons, or 128 to be exact. These would represent 64 enemies, total. Each time, these icons are available in two versions: one lightened and the other darker. These two tones could then indicate the difference between a creature encountered and an enemy still undefeated. Furthermore, JesterPatchs pointed out a surprising fact: I don’t see, however, any major bosses “.
Looking through the game files I came across a few icons making me believe that a bestiary was planned at some point.
There are 128 icons showing different NPCs. Each NPC shown has 2 icons, one grayed out and another one filled in, so it could be not found and found. pic.twitter.com/9b0Tj6ckm3

However, if these are indeed files representing a possible bestiary, the developers at FromSoftware have not made this feature available in the official version of the title. Do they plan to add it later? This question remains unanswered, for the moment. It is, all the same, a safe bet that it will, unfortunately, never see the light of day on Elden Ring.
