Elden Ring dethrones Vanguard as best-selling game

Upon its release, Elden Ring was considered the revelation of the year. Its success is such that it even dethroned Vanguard as the best-selling game of the last 12 months.

Elden Ring was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the start of 2022. Eager to discover what this Souls-like has in store, many players embarked on the adventure from day one, allowing FromSoftware’s latest title to get off to a great start.

If a few shadows then came to darken the picture, the players wiping out some disappointments, sales remained in good shape.

Call of Duty has traditionally topped the best-selling charts for several months in a row, but Vanguard’s lackluster reception left the door to Elden Ring, which rushed into the breach.

According to a report by NPD which evaluates video game sales over a 12-month period, Elden Ring is the best-selling game in the United States, knowing that this 12-month period takes into account sales until the end of the April 2022.

This window makes this accomplishment all the more impressive considering that Vanguard was released on November 5, 2021. Vanguard was almost 4 months ahead of Elden Ring which was released on February 25, 2022, and yet, in April 2022 , Elden Ring is the best-selling game of the past 12 months.

This feat by Elden Ring is historic as it is the first time in many years that a Call of Duty has not been the best-selling game over a 12-month period in the United States. The last time this happened was when GTA V was released.

The report doesn’t show sales figures, but Bandai Namco did reveal that Elden Ring had sold over 13.4 million units worldwide as of March 31. This figure has probably increased by a few million since then.

Activision has confirmed that Vanguard has failed to live up to franchise expectations, it remains to be seen if they will manage to raise the bar with their next title.
